Roulette Table

Learn more about the famous Roulette Table here!

There have been several different configurations of the roulette table over the years, largely determined by which variation of the game is being played. In the contemporary casino, almost all tables now look the same. Based around the American roulette layout, the standard European table layout has just one significant difference, which is the inclusion of just one ‘zero’. Let us now take a look at the main features of the European roulette table as a whole, and most importantly the betting area known as the table layout.

The roulette wheel is usually placed at one end of a rectangular table, in a semicircular bulge that accommodates both the wheel, and a space for the croupier to stack chips. Adjacent to the wheel is the cloth betting area known as the table layout. This contains boxes on which chips can be placed by players to make different bets.

The inner section of the table layout has a rectangular grid on which inside bets are placed. Three rows, each with 12 columns, provide 36 coloured and numbered boxes to represent the pockets 1 to 36 on the roulette wheel. The zero is to the left of this grid. To the right of each row are boxes labelled ‘2 to 1’, to indicate the return for bets placed on entire rows (sometimes known as Columns).
